The Sainsbury's 2012 School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK's elite young athletes of school age. In this, its inaugural year, the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games is being held in the Olympic Park and other venues from 6-9 May to build on the excitement and inspirations of the 2012 Games.
The Sainsbury's 2012 School Games seeks to create an inspirational and motivational setting which not only provides our elite young sports peoplewith the opportunity to thrive and perform at the highest levels, but encourages more young people to take part and succeed in sport. Responsibility for the development and organisation of the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games lies with the Youth Sport Trust.

• The Sainsbury's 2012 School Games is a multi-sport event that will take place from 6-9 May 2012.
• Four Olympic venues will host the event - the Olympic Stadium, Aquatic Centre, Velodrome and ExCel Centre.
• The competition aims to mirror the Olympic and Paralympic Games - complete with opening and closing ceremonies.
• Around 1,600 of the nation's finest young sports stars will compete.
• Up to 35,000 spectators will cheer on the athletes.
• It will be the last event to be held on the Olympic Park before the opening ceremony on 27 July.
• Competition will be held in twelve current and future Olympic and Paralympic sports: fencing, rugby sevens, gymnastics, hockey, badminton, athletics, cycling, judo, swimming, table tennis, volleyball and wheelchair basketball.
• There will be disability events in five sports: athletics, fencing, swimming, judo, table tennis and wheelchair basketball.
• Approximately 700 coaches, support staff and volunteers will give round-the-clock support and advice - collectively committing more than 22,000 hours of their time
• Tickets for the event will be available free of charge for family members and schools groups - giving young people from across the country the opportunity to be inspired by both the Olympic and Paralympic facilities, and the performances of the very best school age talent.
