Sainsbury's 2012 School Games : Safeguarding

The Sainsbury's 2012 School Games wants to ensure that not only do all participating athletes enjoy their experiences and perform well but they do so in a safe environment.

Working with the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU), the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games has a Safeguarding Plan that is annually developed in order to reflect the needs and support given by the host city but that also;

• Supports the sharing of best practice and education in safeguarding practice, and
• Raises the standards in safeguarding practice and welfare planning for events across the sports sector.

The Safeguarding Plan has been developed by working with each of the sporting governing bodies. The Safeguarding Plan 2012 will be available to download shortly.

Two young athletes from Yorkshire and Aberdeenshire have been awarded the '100% me' Spirit of the Games Award for their performances at the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games, which took place in and around the Olympic Park from 7-9 May.

Wheelchair fencer, Gabby Down has been selected by the British Paralympic Association to compete for ParalympicsGB at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
