The athletics competition at the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games will see eight teams of 47 competitors head to London to battle it out for the first ever School Games medals.
Athletes will compete on the track and field over a series of running, jumping and throwing disciplines as part of an action packed sports programme at a very special venue this year, the Olympic Stadium.

Teams representing North East, South East, South West, Midlands, North West, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will descend on the Olympic Park on May 9th 2012.

With the athletics squads now announced we spoke to wheelchair racer Vicki Bell (19) who has been selected to represent South West in the 100 metres and 200 metres.

Vicki commented: "I feel very excited and honoured to have been chosen to race on the Olympic and Paralympic track for my region. I'm very lucky to have a place in such a big event and I hope I can do very well for my region, my team and myself.

"It has always been my dream to race on an Olympic track and I know I'm really lucky to be competing at the venue. When I was first told I had been selected for the School Games and where it would be held this year, I felt very emotional and told everyone I knew!"
