UK Anti-Doping will be at the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games between 7 and 9 May to provide the next generation of UK athletes with anti-doping guidance through the 100% me education programme.
The 2012 School Games, delivered by Youth Sport Trust, will see 1,600 of the UK's young athletes competing across 12 sports at four Olympic venues. As well as allowing the athletes to experience competing at a major event, they will receive an insight into the anti-doping responsibilities they may have in their future careers as athletes.
100% me champions clean sport and supports athletes to reach their potential through the values of hard work, determination, passion, respect and integrity.
Athletes and support personnel visiting the 100% me stand will be able to take an interactive quiz and participate in fun activities aimed at expanding their knowledge of clean sport. Anti-doping experts will be on hand to show them how to check medications online, to explain the risks of supplements and to familiarise them with testing procedures. Any athletes tired after their event can relax on beanbags and watch anti-doping videos in the 100% me chill-out zone.
The 100% me team will also be offering athletes the opportunity to have their picture taken and uploaded onto the 100% me Facebook page [www.facebook.com/100percentme.uk] where they can tag themselves and become part of the 100% me community.
Each year, the Sporting Spirit Award is given to the two competitors who most demonstrate the 100% me values at the Games. As the award is sponsored by 100% me, UK Anti-Doping has donated two sets of 100% me jackets and goodie bags to the winners. Look out for more information about the award and winners during the Games.
UK Anti-Doping Director of Communications and Education Nicola Newman said: "We are proud that our 100% me programme will be present at the School Games for a sixth consecutive year. Many of the athletes taking part will climb the ranks in the next few years and will be required to fully understand and comply with anti-doping procedures.
"The 2012 School Games is an opportunity for us to reach athletes at an early stage of their careers and ensure that they understand the value of clean sport."
UK Anti-Doping will be in the ExCel Centre on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 May and in the Olympic Park on Wednesday 9 May.
