The World Indoor silver medallist was this month named in Team GB's squad for Beijing, where he will be hoping to go one better in the long jump. But before Chris Tomlinson flies off to China he spoke to UK School Games.

How important was school sport in helping achieve your sporting goals?

School sport was very important, I did the English schools and that is how I came through the ranks.

What are you individual thoughts on the UKSG?

I think to have something like the UK School Games is very good, I think it's important to have kids at a young age participating in sport and if they can at the highest possible level and enjoying themselves.

What advice would you give to anyone taking part in UKSG?

I'd advise anyone taking part to just do their best and enjoy it, these games are a great opportunity to compete at a high level throughout your teenage years.

Can you give the athletes any advice in preparation of this big multi sport event?

I'd probably say, train as hard as you can, try not to get too nervous, because if you do get too nervous then you forget why you're actually doing what you're doing.

How do you cope with living in an athlete village around the events?

I would say, concentrate, try not to get distracted by others, keep the noise down and get an early night - respect others events and sleep patterns then once you're event is over then you can enjoy yourselves.
