For the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games there will be two disciplines of cycling showcased. On the 7th and 8th May road cycling events will take place at Redbridge and on the 9th May the action heads over to the Olympic Park Velodrome for track cycling.
115 athletes representing teams from England North East, England North West, England Yorkshire, England East Midlands, England West Midlands, England Eastern, England Central, England South East, England South West, England South, Scotland, Ulster and Wales will take part in the events.
The cycling teams for the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games have been selected following regional and national talent development programmes in each of the home nations.
Fifteen-year-old Beth Hayward from Welwyn said: "I'm really happy about being selected for the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games. To have all the best riders in the UK there makes me feel proud to be selected.
"To compete on Velodrome in the build-up to the Olympics is really exciting. To know that I'll be competing at the same track where the likes of Chris Hoy and Laura Trott will hopefully become Olympic gold medallists in the summer is something that doesn't happen very often! The thought of winning in an Olympic venue before the actual Games really inspires me to train hard and be the best I can be. Winning there would be something really special."
