This week's UK School Games Ambassador is volleyball star Nathan French.
DOB: 20-04-1990
Club: GB (former London Docklands)
Heroes: To be honest I do not really have any heroes in sport. I aspire to be the best I can be and be a role model for others to follow. I respect the athletes that train hard with discipline and without the enhancement of drugs. .
Hometown: Chelmsford, Essex
Former School: The Boswells School
How did you get into your sport?
My friends took part in the early morning sessions and because it was during the winter it is not always nice to be outside in the wet and cold so my mum encouraged me to start playing volleyball. I think it helped especially because our P.E teacher at the time (Darren Lewis) was actually a former England Junior himself. He recognised my 'talent' and said that I could go far.
What are your best memories of the UK School Games?
Hmmm, obviously being on the winning side as vice captain and receiving a medal is something I will remember. However, delivering the athletes, oath in front of over 1500 spectators in the ice-rink arena was a nerve-racking yet unique experience that I will never forget.
What would your advice be to this year's competitors?
Soak up the atmosphere as it is a truly magnificent opportunity to express their talent and most of all enjoy it and really give it your best shot!
What are your sporting aspirations?
To win a starting position in the 2012 Olympics.
How many years have you been playing your sport?
5 years
What is your best sporting performance?
Possibly at the Europeans representing the England Junior's away in Denmark. I received a most valuable player award which was an honour.
